A couple nights ago I went out to shoot some pictures with help from emerging photographers Baptiste Enard (bottom pic) and Thomas Brandenburg (top pic). These shots were taken where Bridgeport and Chinatown meet, on Chicago’s south side.

New Daniel Carlson album: Aviary Jackson

I met my good friend Daniel Carlson in a high school photography class–we bonded over a mutual snobbery for Ilford film over Kodak. He was just in town so we took press shots to promote his stellar new record Aviary Jackson. It’s available now for download, and in June you can get the CD, which features gorgeous artwork (including a 20 page booklet) by Karl Jensen.

The Goblins

Here’s a picture of the sensational masked rock ensemble The Goblins, not to be confused with Italian prog-rockers Goblin, the California metal band Goblin Cock, or the Serbian punk outfit Goblini. Somebody needs to start a Wikipedia page on these guys.

Weasel Walter changes coasts

Yesterday’s Village Voice profiles aberrant musician Weasel Walter, who just moved from Oakland, California to Brooklyn (where he’s got three gigs this month). I took this photo for the Reader in 2002, back when he was a Chicagoan. I wish more people I photographed wore antennae…

Mucca Pazza portraits

I recently completed a personal project; a series of 30 individual portraits of the raucous, enchanting, Chicago “circus punk marching band,” Mucca Pazza. I shot the portraits in my studio on 4×5 Tri-X, using an old Deardorff 8×10 view camera with a reducing back:
