I shot this portrait of composer and musician Ab Baars just around the corner from his home in Amsterdam, as part of my series on improvisational musicians. For my trip I decided to keep things very simple regarding gear; I brought one camera and one lens, and no other equipment. Most of the pictures in this series are shot only with available light, including this one. It’s a fun challenge to try to find captivating light outside at night–there’s something magical to me in the serendipity.
