Legendary Chicago tenor-sax player Fred Anderson turns 80 later this month, and to celebrate, there will be a festival of concerts starting this Sunday, March 15th, at Fred’s own Velvet Lounge (there’ll be a show at The Hideout as well). More details, including artist lineup and dates, at Umbrella Music.
March, 2009 Monthly archive
A couple months back The Von Bondies drove to my Chicago studio from Detroit, their hometown, to shoot promo and album art photos. Frontman Jason Stollsteimer came equipped with good photo concepts for their new album Love, Hate, and Then There’s You, one of them involving a flaming Royal typewriter (I had forgotten how life-affirmingly joyful it is to set stuff on fire). In addition to being released on CD and MP3, the album is also available on a jumbo 12″ disc the industry has dubbed an “LP” or “long player.”
